Design your own kid-friendly backyard

There are three elements to planning a child-friendly yet sophisticated landscaping space in Adelaide and Paving Adelaide. First of all, you will want your garden to be safe so that your little ones can run around and play without you worrying that they will hurt themselves. Next, it will need to be practical so that all this play doesn't result in your yard looking like a mess, and finally you will want to try and stimulate your children's involvement and learning with a creative space.

Safety

From hide and seek to cops and robbers to chasey, children are full of beans, and this energy often translates to a lot of running. As a parent it is a good idea to keep in mind non slip surfaces wherever possible to minimize the scrapes and grazes. Of course, this is not to say that there can't be any paving in your yard, or that injuries can't happen on the grass, but at least stay away from polished concrete or stones that will grow moss and lichen. Also be aware that steps increase the risk of tripping over, particularly over small inclines where it is easy to miss one or two small stairs. Much of the time when accidents happen in the garden, it is because some elements were not designed for children. If you are going to have stairs, hammocks, bridges and other equipment, make sure they are pint sized. Beware of big falls, open water and moving parts. How many times do you think those playground all-in-one sets have been the cause of a broken limb? An remember, it only takes a couple of centimeters to drown in, so while pools will obviously need adequate fencing, don't forget about ponds as well.

Keeping up appearances

Trying to maintain an immaculate garden is difficult enough without adding kids to the equation. The secret to a presentable garden during the early years is not spending every waking hour cleaning it up, but morose just some clever design principles to begin with. Outline with your children which places are for play and which are for walking only. Obviously hedges that require constant pruning and other high maintenance plants will not do well in this kind of garden. You might also like to consider a regular sprinkler or drip system for the garden, so that the outdoor space is entirely self sustaining without your input. A veggie patch is a great idea, as it encourages your children to take pride in their little section of the garden. You won't find them trampling or digging up their carefully nurtured seedlings.

Participation

Kids love exploring and so you can insert little quirks that make your garden an adventure in itself. A bridge that crosses a stream, a rope swing hanging from a tree, a creative bird feeder or a vegetable patch. A cubby house or teepee is every child's creative dream come true. All of these ideas can help stimulate imagination in your young ones which is a must. With your guidance, they can learn about respect for nature and where their food comes from. Being green is only going to become more important in the future so encourage these eco friendly practices early on. Birdbaths might attract some wildlife which will also be food for imagination and add to the learning process.

With this advice it is possible to have a beautiful garden that is also a great spot to spend some quality time with your family. For help getting your outstanding landscaping project in Adelaide off the ground, please visit Thompson Landscaping at http://thompsonlandscapingadelaide.com.au/.
