Protect your car for the future with seat covers

Seat covers have been given a bad reputation. Immediately images of Betty Boop or Hello Kitty and tacky leopard print springs to mind, complete with novelty fluffy dice. In reality, there are many more classic 4x4 seat covers designs that look elegant while protecting your seats.

The primary purpose of seat covers is to protect the seats of your vehicle from stains and fading, as well as general wear and tear. When it comes time to resell, the covers come off and, voilĂ , the seats look brand new. Unfortunately, many have taken it upon themselves to use their seat covers as a chance to accessorise their vehicles, which is where the bad rap stems from.

As well as protecting your seats, the covers themselves can be extremely comfortable, and in that way add to your seats. They can be made of canvas or leather; however canvas is more breathable and therefore better in the heat. If something substantial did happen to spill, such as a can of coke, your canvas covers will keep the majority from reaching your seats. In the event that some does seep through, it is quick and easy to unstick the Velcro tabs and remove the cover so that you can quickly attend to the spill. This is also relevant for those using canvas covers for outback industrial vehicles. The constant dust contact will mean that car seats will eventually need cleaning, which is much easier when they can be removed.

Canvas can wrinkle if it is not cut to the correct fit. It is imperative to find a company that either specialises in your make of vehicle, or specifies that they can do a range of makes and models. Anyone that advocates a one size fits all perspective should be avoided, as car seats will vary widely from model to model. In order for canvas seats to look great, they need to be snugly fitting and pulled tight.

Your seat covers could also be used to give your interior a new look. Not to the extent of plastering a cartoon character all over your car, but simply changing the colour. A pale coloured interior might easily show the dirt, and so you could opt for sleek, dark covers. Alternatively, you may find that an already dark interior looks cramped, and so favour a lighter and more spacious beige.

Canvas seat covers can become more flexible and therefore comfortable with time and use. Just like leather which actually looks better as it ages slightly, canvas looks best some time after your initial installation. In fact, after a week or so it will need to be readjusted because of the drastic loosening of the material. Because of their durability and versatility, canvas seat covers are perfect for everything from the family car to recreational and even heavy duty vehicles.
