Facts that will shock Adelaide high-heeled shoe wearers

High heels are most likely the most sought after Online Shoes in Australia. Many women work hard all week, only to splurge their hard earned cash on that gorgeous pair of heels they’ve been eying off in the shop window. High heels make women feel sexy, powerful and confident. There’s nothing better than sliding on your favorite heels and feeling instantly taller and slimmer. If you are a lover of high heels, you will find these next five facts extremely interesting.

History of high heels

High heels date back thousands of years and were first invented by the Egyptians. While these days’ high heels are a symbol of glamor, back in the Egyptian times they were used for functionality over style. Historic records reveal Egyptian butchers donned high heels in order to provide a barrier between the blood on the floor of their store and their feet. Later on the Pharaohs began integrating the trend into their outfits. They used the extra height to show their dominance towards others.

Stronger than an elephant

Have you ever had your foot stood on by a woman wearing stiletto heels? I had the unfortunate happen to me and believe me it hurt. The initial shock followed by the pain after was enough to make me cry. Following this highly unpleasant experience I can whole-heartedly agree with this next fact. According to studies, having your foot trodden on by an elephant is far less painful than being stepped on by a woman in high heels. Owing to the design of high heels, an immense part of pressure is concentrated into a very tiny area, which is the pointed end of the heel. This results in the blow of a high heel being 15 times more crushing than the pressure of an elephant’s step.

Fit for a king

The origins of high heel as a fashion accessory dates all the way back to the 16th Century in France. At the time the king of France, Henry 11, was set to marry Catherine de Medici. However, Catherine felt like her slight frame was not imposing enough to be royalty. Therefore, she decided to enhance her height with two-inch heels to make herself appear more impressive in the eyes of her French followers. Whilst appearing more powerful, I’m sure she never knew what a huge fashion impact her shoe selection would make. These days a wedding or formal event normally isn’t complete with a pair of amazing high heels.

Expensive heels

This next fact won’t make your feel that bad about your next splurge on shoes. While Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City made it ok to splurge on shoes, this fact makes her ManoloBlahnik and Jimmy Choo shoes look like nothing. Amazingly, high heels crafted by New Zealand fashion designer Kathryn Wilson cost a whopping $500,000. The shoes aptly named “Diamond Shoes” feature hundreds of individual white diamonds and have earned themselves the title of being the world’s most expensive high heels. It’s not hard to see why they are so expensive with it taking over 50 hours for each of these precious white diamonds to be painstakingly added with a pair of tweezers.

Men in heels

While in the 21st century high heels are seen as the height of femininity, back in the 16th century they had a very different purpose. In the Persian army, male riders use to wear high-heeled shoes whilst riding horses. They were preferred footwear as they allowed riders to stabilize themselves, allowing them to accurately fire their bow and arrow whilst riding.
