How can you formulate a successful SEO strategy?

Most business owners today recognize the absolute importance of a strong online presence, but knowing that it is needed and knowing how to go about achieving this can be two very different concepts. Without an in house specialist SEO team in Melbourne, you will need to consider outsourcing this job to a professional agency. Unfortunately, with the rapid growth of the online marketing industry, countless businesses have opened their doors and it can be difficult at first to distinguish the experts from the amateurs. Be certain that this difference will become very apparent in a matter of time, just track how successful (or unsuccessful) your business has been since employment. So how can you tell outright which company is going to best assist your business? Arrange an initial complimentary consultation with a number of companies that you are considering and come with questions prepared.

It is worthwhile to first ask about the general strategy building process. Hopefully the company will stress that this aspect is dependent on the individual goals and needs of the business. Too often the broad term SEO is used to solely target increasing page rank. In reality, a business may have any number of online marketing goals that can be measured by a number of metrics. You may find that you are having plenty of page views, but not enough conversions. Alternatively, perhaps people are only visiting your site for a few seconds before jumping off. Businesses with a website but no clear SEO strategy will likely not be aware of the extent of their current situation. During an initial consultation, an SEO agency will review your site stats and outline the goals that would be most beneficial for you to aim for.

Ask about the keywords that will work best for your business. Keywords that sound too good to be true probably are. Nationwide keywords are inadvisable for smaller businesses, which should compete on a smaller scale so as not to get drowned out entirely. Any keyword suggestions should be investigated and search volumes compared. Your agency should advise keywords that attract a reasonable search volume. If not, they are not confident in their own abilities and instead rely on unrealistic searches.  Perhaps one of the most common traps that oblivious SEO clients fall into is accepting keywords with a tiny search volume. A sleazy company will insist that you will rank in the top spot under these searches, which is technically true, but in reality no one would ever type in that search so it is not helpful for business in any way.

View the website of the agency and look for testimonials. While these are likely to all be positive (who would post a negative comment on their own website?), they are still a good list of all of the clients that the agency has worked with. Visit some of these websites and assess the content. Does it sound forced or like it was written by a robot? Read through some of the pages and try to determine the keywords, which are phrases that are likely to be repeated several times throughout. Then perform a Google search of these keywords and see where that business ranks. A position in the top spots would suggest a reliable and reputable SEO company at the helm. Remember, strange keywords aren’t likely to attract much traffic, so the higher the rank under a generic keyword, the better.
