heel.
Your
go-to pair of shoes needs to be extremely comfortable if it is going to last
the 9-5 as well as hours of drinks and dancing afterward, but flats won’t cut
it. Flats can pass in some offices, but at night you’ll be the shortest in the
group by six inches. That being said, we’ve all experienced the pain of a pair
of stilettos that pinches and rubs, leaving sore feet that are no good for
dancing. So what is the solution? It’s the perfect middle ground pair of
wedges.
This
style provides plenty of added support and cushioning for your heel, and often
includes a chunky ankle buckle that holds the foot in place. This means that
you can often get away with a shoe that is not exactly the right size, as the
foot can’t slip out. The larger sole area of the wedge means that cracks in the
pavement, uneven surfaces and even grates or drains are no obstacle. From the
carpet in the office to stepping onto the footpath at five o’clock, your feet
will be fully supported. Better yet, opt for wedges that offer a significant
platform under the ball of the foot. This acts as a cushioning, as well as a
height boost. The slope of the heel can be shallower with this platform while
still giving the same effect. An open toe gives the foot to move and adjust
over time. However, a closed toe pump could be used to conceal some sockettes
that can offer some additional comfort, so either can be advantageous.
Avoid
a peep toe style or Mary Jane strap if you plan to wear these shoes for ten
hours or longer on end. The incline of the heel can force your toes to push
against the end of the shoe, and a peep toe at the end will make your feet
incredibly uncomfortable by the end of the night. The Mary Jane strap adds come
level of comfort, but is inadvisable for extended periods of time. It is
standard for feet to swell slightly when they are in heels all day. It isn’t
anything to worry about; however a strap could really dig into the skin as it
expands. Unless you remember to loosen the strap a notch or two several times
over the course of the day and night, you risk cutting off your circulation.
